A lo-fi bar with hi-fi intentions.
There’s a lot written about ‘audiophile’ bars in London, often kindly name-checking our spot — we aren’t that. Our system was put together like a well loved home stereo, starting with a pair of speakers that suited the room then working backwards to find complementary amps, pre-amps, deck etcetera… Over time, we installed some tops and other bits to get a better dispersion & balance for the space. Even now, it remains an ever-evolving, loosely amalgamated and slightly rebellious organism.
Good sound isn’t everything Except when it is
Building a soundsystem is a bit like building a drink, if you know what you like and you avoid anything that feels too artificial, you should be fine… Right?
In terms of sound, design and approach, Behind This Wall attempts to follow in the footsteps of fabled Japanese listening bars with warm sound and natural timbres; celebrating forgotten, native craft and zen-mechanics (nod to 1970’s Cambridge audio!)
