10 years of THE DIGGERS

Tonight we’re celebrating 10 years of The Diggers - a collectors collective headed by the inimitable Mr. Chris Airplays. For our first ever event back in the heady summer of 2012, Chris starred on our open deck sound-system. Since then we’ve been intertwined as star-crossed nerds, confidants and collaborators with The Diggers contributing, consulting and mostly being solid mates to all of us at BTW over the years.

As well as records and beer, Chris is a standout home-cook and has a delectable side-hustle under The Gora guise providing Indian recipes to fellow enthusiasts. This evening’s LA DECIMA session sees all of this tied up neatly with the launch of an original recipe Zine, beers from the lovely team at the Orbit Brewery and a line-up curated by the big man himself.

Below is a selection of mixes, tunes and photos to toast the past 10 years and raise to the next!

Doors tonight from 6pm.

MIXES:

We’ve had a few runs at a podcast/mixtape series over the years, Chris has featured on all of them. Ed. My fave is this warped tape edition recorded onto a faulty Sony Walkman at the bar and playing back at a warbled melancholic -10 pitch.

TRACKS:

Chris picks a TOP 5 for BTW

  1. Vaccuum Boogie - Floating Points: “I had to include a Floating Points track for all the times I stood in as the ‘SPECIAL GUEST’ when you couldn't convince Charlotte to get him to play”

  2. Twinkle Brothers - Babylon Is falling Down: “Haz gave me this and it sums up his set at that first party on Netil 360.”

  3. Lex - Turning Tides: “I played this on the terrace, I think for the press launch”

  4. Denaji - Wuhti (DJ Sotofett’s Bhakti Crew Mix): “I remember Dan Sciberras playing this at the London Fields Brewery fair/party and then needing to get a copy.”

  5. Skinnyman - Not Bonnie & Clyde: “I know you love a bit of UK Hip Hop and this is one of my favourites :)”
